The Consortium sponsors several workshops each year geared toward staff (including support staff) of member libraries and institutions. Members are encouraged to send ideas for workshops to Boyd at bbroughton@mtmercy.edu. These events are offered at no cost to members and often include free lunch! What a great way to network with colleagues.

Join us on Tuesday, October 12, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the El Kahir Shrine Center for dinner, one of our mega short business meetings, and Karen Burns' Gadget Zoo!
Karen is a technology librarian extraordinnaire and is loads of fun to listen to. Karen will give you a chance to see--and hold--a variety of gadgets that your patrons are using (or that you'd LIKE to be using!): ereaders, iPad, iPod Touches, smartphones, Flip video cameras, mp3 players.
She welcomes those in the audience to share their gadgets and experiences, too. For our meeting, she'll have a Kindle DX, Kindle 3, Sony Reader Touch edition, Nook, an iPad, a 2nd gen iPod Touch, a 4th gen iPod Touch, Droid smart phone (and a little about qr codes...), a Flip video camera, Creative Zen microphoto mp3 player. She'll be passing them around for people to get some hands-on feel for the various devices, and she can talk about anything we'd like. Karen says recently, most librarians have been interested in the ereaders--and the ereading capability of other devices.
And, in honor of the Gadget Zoo, we will be drawing for a FREE Nook ereader, as well as a few other door prizes! Someone who comes to dinner is going to win, and folks, this isn't anything like playing the lottery. If you've been to our dinners before, you know the pool of possible winners is pretty small.
